Jaguar Hopes Redesigned XJ Will Increase Worldwide Sales By 50 Percent

Jaguar are optimistic that the redesigned 2011 XJ sedan, released next month, will boost this year’s global sales by as much as 50percent. It is hoped that the XJ will help boost sales to 75,000 units this year.

In 2009 global sales for Jaguar were down 21 percent from 2008 and saw a very modest rise of 1.1 percent in March.

The British Automotive discontinued their smallest model, the XJ, last year and has been relying on the more expensive XF saloon and XK coupe.

Gary Temple, president of Jaguar Land Rover North America,told Automotive News in February, that the brand was practically “a one-model company” since the discontinuation of the XJ model.

Managing Director Mike O’Driscoll expects the sedan to re-establish interest in the brand and attract buyers looking for “sporty, stylish and exclusive cars”.

The luxury sedan will be available in short and long wheelbases and has a glass panoramic roof, interior mood lighting and features including full colour ‘virtual’ gauges.

The XJ biggest rivals are the Audi A8, BMW 7 Series, Maserati Quattroporte, and Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

It will be the first time that Jaguar launches a vehicle simultaneously in four major markets: US, United Kingdom, China and Germany.

On the road prices for the XJ start from £53,900 and will be available on jaguar finance.
