Joey Logano Violent NASCAR Crash Dover 09/27/2009

DOVER, Del. – The AAA 400 came to a halt on Lap 31 after Bobby Labonte collided with rookie driver Joey Logano. Logano was riding 23rd on the restart following the competition caution when Labonte clipped the No. 20 car on the outside. Logano checked up and was tagged from behind by Tony Stewart, he then slid up the track and collected Reed Sorenson, whose car launched the No. 20 into the air. Logano flipped seven times before stopping right-side up. “I’m fine it just scared the heck out of me,” Logano said. “I got tagged from behind. I was like, ‘Damn make this thing stop,’. I was fine. “It just shows how safe these cars on. That’s the wildest ride I’ve ever been on.” Robby Gordon and Martin Truex Jr.’s cars received residual damage in the process. “I didn’t see a whole lot just heard the spotter saying they were spinning out,” Truex said. “It’s unfortunate we had a pretty good car in happy hour and I was just looking forward to the race.” Truex said the wreck had nothing to do with track conditions. “The track is fine. It was just guys checking up. (Labonte) checked up. Joey checked up and it looked like Tony got into the back of him. It’s just one of those things here when you’re in the back of the pack. It happens on restarts. The four drivers were all evaluated and released from the infield care center. The red flag period lasted 23 minutes and 38 seconds.

  5. how original.

  6. k wat u mean

  7. @crakajack3 your cool

  8. its funny:
    1. Ryan Newman was somehow involved in most of the flips in ‘09 (Leading when Kenseth flipped at ‘Dega, hits Edwards the next day, leading during this one, and himself at ‘Dega in November.

    2. Two former JGR drivers (Labonte & Tony) were involved with the start of Joey’s crash.

  9. I like how this kid don’t get out with his helmet but his sponser hat! NOW THATS A REAL MAN!

You guys better watch your asses next year!

I only mentioned one open wheeled series

  20. haha no comment

  21. thats why all the open wheel drivers who have tried nascar have failed miserably except juan montoya, and it only took him 3 freaking years and he still admits its harder.

  22. The Monster Mile

  23. Ok maybe Mears did flip but I wouldn’t count that because a car hit him and turned him. He didn’t do a complete flip.

  24. cabagesoup714 on March 11th, 2010 at 4:05 am

ummmm……that’s a pretty stupid question. I might if I had the desire.

Of course the skill involved is relative, I’m sure I wouldn’t win on a NASCAR circuit but I would get eaten alive in a real race worth driving and requiring legendary driving skills (aka F1, touring cars, rally, Road Atlanta, Le mans, Gymkhana).

Plus the way the cars are set up you can pretty much steer them with braking and acceleration, you’d be f****** if you had to go the opposite direction around the oval.

  25. k thats 4th flip in COT:

    Casey Mears-California 2008
    Michael McDowell-Texas 2008
    Carl Edwards-Talladega 2009
    and now
